South Fylde Masters Go East.

Three South Fylde Group Masters, Brother David Hill, Master of Kirkham Lodge, Brother Derek Lewthwaite Master of The Foxhall Lodge and Brother David Atkinson Master of Landmark Lodge left the West to go to the East in search of Masonic enlightenment and ended up in the Province of Yorkshire West Riding. They witnessed a third degree ceremony performed by the members of Baildon Lodge No.1545.

At times the trio were a little bewildered at some of the ritual during the evening, but they remained true to their origins and bravely soldiered on in the West Lancashire way
The three of them thanked their gracious hosts for a most enjoyable and enlightening evening, and extended a warm fraternal hand of friendship to any Brother who would like to travel to Lancashire and see the same ceremony performed in a completely different manner.

Family Bowling Fun on The Fylde with The Lodge of Triumph

A beautiful Sunday afternoon was the perfect setting for the 13th Ellis Knight Memorial Trophy.  This crown green bowling trophy was first presented in 1998 in memory of Ellis Knight, a former member of The Lodge of Triumph.  Over 40 attended this 2010 event and the atmosphere at Kirkham Conservative Club was lively and full of good humour as the experienced bowlers battled it out with the more novice players.

The afternoon ended in the clubhouse where a superb buffet was enjoyed and a raffle raised the splendid sum of £200.

John Topping - Worshipful Master presented the three prizes of crystal glasses to May Hogarth as best overall lady bowler, Olen Higson as best overall male non-lodge bowler and Ted Rhodes best overall lodge bowler.

John Topping thanked all for supporting this social event and highlighted the forthcoming Curry Night, Plumbjabi, Highfield Road, Blackpool on 28 September and the fantastic Ceilidh booked for 13 November at Pipers Height Caravan Park, Peel Corner, Blackpool.  He also congratulated Graham Smith, Social Secretary and his wife Denise for all their hard work and the Rhodes family for organising the bowling logistics.

What a Cracker

The Freemasons' Grand Charity is donating an enormous £600,000 to Hospices across England and Wales.  The money is an important contribution towards the millions of pounds needed each and every year to ensure these respected services can continue providing free physical, emotional, social and spiritual care to patients and their families.  In total 227 services, including those specifically for children, will receive a grant from The Grand Charity.

"it is very pleasing to be able to support the continuing work of our own Trinity Hospice through charitable amounts such as this.  The Grand Charity is working very hard on behalf of our local Fylde Coast communities" - Terry Hudson, Assistant Provincial Grand Master

For many years, Freemasons have been enthusiastic in their support for Hospices.  The funding announced recently takes The Freemasons' Grand Charity's total donations to the sector to more than £7.5 million, complementing the generosity Provincial and individual Masonic Lodges regularly show for their local services.

Congratulations to David and Clive.

The Lodge of Triumph’s last meeting of the season was a special occasion for brethren.  Previous to the normal business of a Ceremony of Passing, congratulations were extended to David Randerson, following his recent promotion to Grand Lodge and additionally only three days earlier in Provincial Grand Lodge to the post of Group Chairman. Coupled with that, the Lodge of Triumph’s very own Clive Littlewood received his Past Provincial Junior Grand Deacons's rank at the same ceremony in Blackpool.

A Landmark Demonstration at Landmark Lodge

Monday 5th March saw a demonstration of a 1759 Masonic ceremony “The Making of a Mason” by the members of Landmark lodge 7273 before a full temple of Landmark members and their guests.

It was done in full period costume and as near to the original ritual as possible. The Lodge was honoured by the presence of Leon Tax who had obtained the ritual and then passed it to the members of Landmark.

Brian Cooper then arranged for the costumes to be made by Mrs A.Layland to whom the lodge is very grateful and to D. Atkinson who made the props.

The evening went very well for the first time and all who took part really enjoyed the experience.  The team look forward to reproducing it at other lodges so if any one feels that their lodge would like it at their meeting please get in touch with the booking secretary W-Bro Richard Anderson on 01253 885417.

All we ask is to be able to take a raffle on the evening which will go to Masonic charities.

Sponsored Walk

A sunny Sunday morning at The Fairhaven was the scene for the start and finish of the South Fylde Group Sponsored Walk, raising funds for the 2010 Festival.  Many thanks to Peter Robinson – Group Charity Steward and Mrs. Elizabeth Robinson for all their hard work in planning this 2009 event.

Over 25 walkers from across the South Fylde Group, including wives, partners and canine companions, made the journey down the Promenade from Ansdell to Lytham, through Lytham town centre and then through the beautiful Witchwood.  A treasure hunt questionnaire helped focus the minds along the way.

A short refreshment stop at Tony Hale’s house in Witchwood got every one re-energised again for the final mile back to The Fairhaven.

Landlord Nigel Wild (a Blackpool freemason) had prepared a superb lasagne and chips for all the walkers .  Thank you Nigel for your generosity and support for our Sponsored Walk.  It is much appreciated !!

Following lunch, the raffle raised £110 towards our 2010 fundraising.

This years Sponsored Walk has raised the magnificent total of £2500 plus Gift Aid.
